Summer Favorite: Watermelon

There are so many things to love about summer but one of our favorite things is fresh fruit in season! And one of our favorite fruits is watermelon. Watermelon is great in the summer because it's cold and refreshing on a hot day. But that's not all. Watermelon is also really healthy!

Next time you are looking for a healthy snack, remember these reasons to choose watermelon:

Watermelon has a ton of Vitamin C which is great for your heart and eyes as well as your immune system. It has Beta-carotene which can fight cancer. It also has potassium which helps lower blood pressure.

Watermelon is full of amino acids which can help lower blood pressure and improve blood flow.

Lastly, watermelon is low in calories due to its water content. A cup of watermelon only has 45 calories, making it a great snack when you want to beat the heat.

When picking out your watermelon, you want it to be heavy. If you buy it pre-cut, you want a dark red color without any white. Once a watermelon is picked, it stops ripening, so keep that in mind when you are making your purchase.
