Amber Selman is a 5th-generation Iowa farmer raising the 6th on Grate View Farm. Alongside her husband, she runs the dairy side of their family operation—Heinrich Farms—raising calves, cow/calf pairs, corn, and soybeans. Her passion for agriculture runs deep.
Part of the farm has been in her family since 1856, and today, it’s still a family-run operation. What sets Amber’s farm apart is its diversity: not many farms still run beef, row crops, and dairy—let alone all three. It’s rare, and she’s proud of that.
Amber has spent years sharing the story of agriculture. It started with her TAGS (Telling Ag’s Story) presentation at church camp and grew into hosting third-grade field trips on her family farm. Today, she continues that mission by visiting urban schools, where she and her husband speak to over 1,000 students in just two days—bringing dairy farming to life for a new generation.
What It Means to Be an Agvocate™
Amber believes telling your story matters. You don’t need a big platform—you just need to speak up. From running Heinrich Farms’ Facebook page to blogging about mental health in ag, she leads by example.
You can find her writing on Caring for Calves and Kids—a blog where she opens up about the hard stuff: the emotional load of being a mom, a farmer, and a human trying to hold it all together. It's real, raw, and refreshingly honest.
Thank you for being a devoted Agvocate™, Amber!
If you’re inspired by Amber’s story, support women in agriculture by shopping our Agvocate collection. Every piece is made for women who do the hard work, love their land, and care deeply—for their crops, kids, and communities.
